Meryll Soriano joins Betty La Fea: shares life as a mom

After a year-long hiatus, actress Merryl Soriano makes her career comeback as part of ABS-CBN's upcoming television series "I Love Betty La Fea."

For the series, Soriano will portray the character of Rose. Rose works with Betty -- played by actress Bea Alonzo -- in the Eco Moda fashion house.

Soriano had set aside her acting career for a year after giving birth to her firstborn Elijah, her son by actor-model Bernard Palanca. The couple, unfortunately, has already parted ways.

Soriano is thankful for the blessings coming her way in the form of her son and a new acting project.

"I'm very blessed na binigyan ako ng ganito. Hindi siya 'yung abrupt change. So hindi naman ako nahirapan kasi kakakuha ko lang ng yaya. So the whole time na lumalaki siya [Elijah] grabe na 'yung bonding naming dalawa," Soriano said in an interview,

The actress proudly said that she's really enjoying every moments raising her baby.

"Seriously, I love it. Ngayon ko lang naramdaman 'yung feeling na ayokong umalis ng bahay. Nae-enjoy ko gumising na may katabing maliit na ako. Kahit sa mall nga hindi ko siya nilalagay sa stroller kaya bali na ang likod ko," Meryll said.

Soriano who is a self-confessed hands-on mom, also admitted that there were really times that she had to run to her mother and asked for some guidance and advice when it comes to taking care of Elijah.

"Syempre you ask for help. I have no knowledge of how to do this. When your child is born, you’re also born into a new person because suddenly, you don’t know a single thing about it. Hindi ako pwede magrunung-runungan."

Like any other mothers in the world, Meryll is protective of her son and always wants to be with Elijah as much as possible.

Soriano admitted that until now she’s still in awe of the wonder of life now that she's given birth to her child.

"Parang hanggang ngayon hindi pa rin ako makapaniwala na nanggaling siya sa akin. Tinanong ko nga sa mama ko na, ‘Mama nawawala ba yung feeling? Does it ever go away, yung amazement mo, yung wonder mo?’

Sabi niya, ‘Hindi’. Kahit daw ngayon ‘pag tinitignan niya ko, parang hindi pa rin niya alam kung paano niya ko inilabas, eh mas malaki pa ko sa kanya."

The proud mama said that right now she's still learning and discovering the blessings, joys and heartaches of being a mother.

"Alam mo nung buntis ako 'yan ang naisip ko. Naplano ko na lahat, kung paano ko siya palalakihin, kung paano yung future niya. But now na totoong tao na siya, every day is a sweet surprise, every day is a learning process of who I am as a mother.

"Pwede ko siyang i-plano pero hindi ko alam kung pwede ko siya i-apply kasi sabay kaming naggrogrow ng anak ko," Soriano ended.

Soriano is the daughter of Willie Revillame and Bec-Bec Soriano, sister of Diamond Star Maricel Soriano.

Soriano and Palanca's whirlwind romance culminated in a marriage on September 8, 2006 in a civil ceremony held in San Juan City.

The marriage lasted only for about five months. When they parted ways, It was August 2007 when Soriano gave birth to Elijah. After only a month, Palanca left the Philippines for Australia to take stock of his life.

He remains in Australia trying start a new life and find a new career.

Soriano said she and Palanca are better off as friends. They met over lunch last May 16 to talk about raising their son despite Palanca's decision to move to Australia.
